The Winton Cup series of competitions (Veteran, Senior and Cadet) was founded by Sir Nicholas Winton and brother Robert in 1950. Sir Nicholas represented England in 1938 and was selected for the 1940 Olympics, which were of course, cancelled.
In 1988 we learned that Sir Nicholas was responsible for saving 669 children from Czechoslovakia in 1938 by running trains to the coast and rehoming them in the UK and Sweden. He died in 2015 aged 106.
These competitions are now run in his honour. They are six weapon team events. London Region organises the Senior and Junior teams representing London with fencers being chosen from EF ranking lists.
Anyone interested in the Veteran competition (aged 40+) can register through http://www.veterans-fencing.co.uk/
